March 21 in Blackpool by Paul Maynard MP

Well there we are. Gordon’s last budget. A 2 pence cut in the standard rate of income tax … … paid for by abolishing the 10p rate and pushing up NICs for higher earners. So we all suffer somehow – hitting Blackpool and Cleveleys especially hard, since incomes in these parts tend to be below the national average.

The Government even admits the tax burden will continue to rise as a result of the changes. Not much of a tax cut then!

Given all the spin, also, about how Grumpy Gordon will prioritise education from now on, its disappointing that growth in education spending is set to fall to just 2.5% – lower than the growth rate of the economy even.

Nothing about any financial measures to help the regeneration of seaside towns either – which is a priority for Blackpool, and which should be a priority for Labour.

As ever, Gordon Brown and Labour have turned their backs on Blackpool.
Note
Having been compared earlier this week to Stalin, its nice to see that Gordon gets on well with the very, very authoritarian Vladimir Putin also (see picture)!
