People across Blackpool will be deeply disappointed to hear that Manchester, rather than Blackpool, has been given the go-ahead for a regional casino. It is to be hoped that if the Manchester pilot is successful, the Government will reconsider Blackpool as a suitable venue for another super-casino.
There is no magic wand to Blackpool’s regeneration. The casino would not have solved all the town’s problems single-handedly, but it would have been a key element. ReBlackpool and other regeneration groups must now work harder than ever.
Blackpool does have a bright future, no matter what the doom-mongers say. We just have to make sure that bright future comes sooner rather than later.
