Some hitherto unheard of little bunch of nannying whingers who go by the name of the Broadcast Advertising Clearance Centre has decided that the British Egg Information Service will not be allowed to celebrate its 50th anniversary by replaying its classic 1950s ‘Go to work on an egg’ ads that starred Tony Hancock.
The reason? Eating eggs every day goes against the principle of eating a varied diet. What the hell business is it for the ‘state’ in the form of any official body to start approving or banning adverts on the basis of whether the food they advertises is part of a balanced diet. No-one is suggesting you go to work on a single egg and then eat nothing else all day.
Who needs the Government’s public health busybodies when we have the glory of the Broadcasting Advertising Clearance Centre to do their work for them. This is not just about our food, it is about our national heritage. Does this mean we’ll be banning all those old black and white films where people smoke, or will the Rover’s Return and the Queen Vic be banned in the hope it will put us off drinking?
If you wish to defy these ghastly people, you can see the adverts online at http://www.gotoworkonanegg.co.uk/.
