Disappointing news to see Lancashire Constabulary’s dog handling unit is being shrunk from 35 to 21 handlers. Not only that, but it means 4 ‘working dogs’ will have to be rehomed. As the Chairman of the local Police Federation has said, it shows how the police budgets are under pressure, meaning Lancashire Constabulary is faced with trying to balance commitments and resources. These cuts mean the police’s ability to conduct searches and manage crowd control will be compromised – not good news for any of us at a time when we have so much disorder on our streets.
