The end of the Olympics is a tricky task for the British. We have to hope Mayor of London Boris Johnson does not contrive to drop the Olympic flag when it is handed over – or leave it in the overhead locker on his Economy-seat flight home. We have to hope Leona Lewis and David Beckham on an open-top Routemaster bus is not as toe-curling as it sounds. We have to hope that the ‘show’ is every bit as good as the team’s performance.
In September, Blackpool will be hosting the English Masters, part of the Nestea European Beach Volleyball championship tour. Let us hope the weather is clement and the wind not too strong. It gives us a chance to prove how much better a venue we would be for the Olympic Beach Volleyball in 2012 than Horseguards’ Parade. I won’t hold my breath, but if the showjumping can be in Hong Kong this year, why not beach volleyball in Blackpool?
