It was the Blackpool North & Cleveleys Conservative Ball back on Friday, and a fun time was had by nearly all.
In a departure from tradition, we not only had a jazz band, but we also had a group of 18-year old indy rockers from around the Fylde who were making their live debut for us. An intriguing blend, bit reminiscent of the Killers maybe. Some of the older guests may have been a little bemused, but they got a universally warm reception – and were thrilled to have the opportunity to perform. Credit to Andrea Kay for finding them all at her skate night. It just goes to show that we shouldn’t be tarring all the youth with the same brush. It made the DJ afterwards look a bit tame with his Abba hits! Still, five 18-year olds on the dance floor certainly made the thirty-somethings get a bit more energetic with their dancing – I’ll forbear from posting my photos of one of my friend’s frightening giraffe-like moves as he tried to forget he was now the wrong side of 30!
And with the results of the Park by-election ringing in our ears, it was an upbeat night in more ways than one.
