I welcome, along with all local residents, the decision to turn down Canatxx’s plans. Given the strength of local opposition, I am amazed it has taken five years to put a stop to this.

1.3m tonnes of natural gas to be stored under the Wyre estuary, with brine discharges into the sea off Rossall would have done untold damage to a fragile ecosystem. With this decision, the sensitive and fragile ecosystems of the Wyre and Morecambe Bay – and not least, local residents – will receive that bit more protection.

What we now need is for the Government to finally get around to bringing forward the Marine Bill which they have delayed and delayed on introducing. That would bring the final element of protection our community needs.
