Blackpool North and Cleveleys MP Paul Maynard has called on Conservative Party leaders to bring the party’s conference back to Blackpool.
Mr Maynard has written to Conservative Party chairman James Cleverly asking him to back Blackpool and bring the party’s annual gathering back to one of its spiritual homes.
Mr Maynard highlighted investment in hotels, a new conference centre and the Government’s £255m investment in the town’s rail link as reasons to return, making clear the historic links between the party and the town.
He said: “Bringing major events back to Blackpool is crucial to help regenerate our town.
That is why I have written to Conservative Party chairman James Cleverly asking that the party consider bringing its conference back to Blackpool.
A huge investment is being made in new hotels and conference facilities and the time is right to put Blackpool back on the Conference circuit.
I have asked our party to show faith in our town and back Blackpool.”
The Government has provided funding towards the construction of new conference facilities at the Winter Gardens and regeneration funding is also supporting the construction of new high quality hotel accommodation in the town.
Mr Maynard said: “Our party has many happy memories of conferences in Blackpool. I believe our town is ready to once again host such a major national showpiece event.”
