Blackpool North and Cleveleys MP Paul Maynard has welcomed Government investment to help secure the long-term future of three iconic attractions.
The Government has announced it has awarded Blackpool Coastal Community Team £49,500 to fund the Three Piers Sustainability Study. The cash, awarded as part of the Coastal Revival Fund, will pay for work to identify more sustainable economic activities for the piers.
Mr Maynard said: “I’m very much aware of the need to secure the future of Blackpool’s piers, three of our town’s most famous landmarks and important heritage attractions. It is also clear that investment in the piers will play an important role in the wider economic regeneration of Blackpool.
“I have met with Ministers on a number of occasions to discuss funding options and continue to support the work of the local authority and the owners in whatever way I can.
“The Government has today demonstrated it also recognises the importance of supporting our piers. The funding announced is just the start of the process to ensuring a long-term economic future for these unique sites.
“I look forward to seeing how this significant investment can be used to the benefit of Blackpool.”
In total £2m has been given to 23 projects under the latest round of Coastal Revival Fund awards. Blackpool’s funding was announced by Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government James Brokenshire.
